A Reflection on my Mentorship Experience – Mandip Shrestha

My mentorship journey began with simple curiosity and a desire to help students by sharing my knowledge. What started casually soon became a meaningful and rewarding experience, helping me grow both personally and academically. Through mentoring, I strengthened my own learning and formed valuable connections with students, realizing how important a sense of community is in keeping learners motivated and engaged.

I served as a mentor in a web development program organized by Prime IT Club in collaboration with Aarambha Sanskar Vidyalaya. The program focused on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. As a bachelor-level student mentoring younger learners from Grades 3 to 10, I initially felt excited yet nervous. Although 17 students enrolled, around 8 to 9 attended regularly. Teaching students of different ages and skill levels was challenging, but it made the experience enjoyable and dynamic.

Mentorship

While the senior mentor led the sessions, I supported students by helping them understand concepts and correct coding errors, such as missing tags or syntax mistakes. I made sure to explain topics simply so everyone could follow along. Teaching CSS was especially enjoyablebecause students could see the results of their creativity immediately, which boosted their excitement and confidence.

The students were all unique and made the classes lively. Binayak, the most noticeable among them, was energetic and funny, often making everyone laugh while still taking his work seriously. Even the younger students, who sometimes struggled, were curious and excited when they finally got their code to work. A memorable moment was when we clicked a group photo at the end of one session; everyone was smiling and proud of what they had accomplished.

Through this experience, I learned a lot. I improved my communication and leadership skills, learned how to explain technical topics clearly, and gained confidence in guiding students. By the end of the program, I felt proud and motivated, and it strengthened my interest in teaching and technology. Overall, mentoring in this program was a valuable and enriching experience that helped me grow both technically and personally, while also forming meaningful connections within the learning community.

Overall, the experience was enriching and strengthened my interest in technology and teaching. I am grateful to Prime College and Prime IT Club for this opportunity and look forward to contributing more in the future.
