TU Bachelors Entrance Exams in Nepal: A Complete Guide for  Aspiring BBA, BBS, BBM, BCA, BITM, and BSc. CSIT Students

Getting admission into a TU-affiliated college is a big step for students who want to study management or IT after their +2. But before you can start classes, you first need to clear the entrance exam. And these exams are conducted by Tribhuvan University (TU) itself through the specific faculty your course falls under.

A lot of students get confused because every program works differently. Some courses have a proper competitive entrance exam. Others have a more relaxed admission process. Knowing this early saves you from a lot of last minute panic during admission season.

If you are planning to study BBA, BBS, BBM, BCA, BITM, or BSc. CSIT, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know before you start preparing.

Entrance Exam for BBA, BBA-F, BBM, BITM, BHM, BTTM, BPA, and BMS

The Faculty of Management conducts the CMAT (Central Management Admission Test), which is the entrance test for BBA, BBA-F, BITM, BBM, BHM, BTTM, BPA, and BMS. This entrance exam is a requirement for admission to TU-affiliated universities for students who want to participate in certain management programs.

The exam checks you on:

  • English proficiency
  • Quantitative aptitude (basically math and number-based questions)
  • Logical reasoning
  • General knowledge

The entrance exam helps determine whether students have the fundamental abilities needed for further education in management and business-related subjects because these programs are competitive and career-oriented. Students can apply for admission to their desired management program and college if they pass the CMAT entrance exam.

Admission Procedure for BBS

BBS, or Bachelor of Business Studies, is a bit different from the other programs. Compared to BBA or BBM, the admission process for BBS is not conducted by TU itself, while TU-affiliated colleges may follow their own separate admission procedures and requirements.

In most TU-affiliated colleges, getting into BBS depends mainly on:

  • Your +2 or equivalent exam results
  • The college’s own admission procedure

Some colleges might conduct a small interview or internal assessment, but BBS does not have the same kind of competitive entrance exam structure as BBA or BBM. This is exactly why many students prefer BBS. It gives you a solid business foundation and the admission process is not as intense.

BCA Entrance Exam

If you want to study BCA, which is Bachelor of Computer Application, you will need to appear for the BCA entrance exam conducted under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The exam generally covers:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • General knowledge

One of the best things about BCA is that students from all backgrounds such as science, management, and humanities can apply. So even if you did not take science in your +2, you can still go for BCA if you are genuinely interested in IT, programming, or software-related fields. It is open to a wider group of students compared to something like BSc CSIT.

Entrance Exam for BSc. CSIT

BSc. CSIT, which stands for Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology, has one of the more technical and competitive IOST entrance exams among all TU programs.

There is one important thing you need to know right away: only students from a science background can apply for BSc. CSIT. This course is not eligible for students who studied management or other field in +2.

The entrance exam covers:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Computer science

Since BSc. CSIT goes much deeper into the technical side of computer science compared to BCA or BITM, the entrance exam is also more focused on scientific and analytical thinking. You must have a background in science in order to be eligible for this program.

How to Prepare for TU Entrance Exams

Preparation is what truly makes the difference when it comes to getting into the course you want. Here are some practical things you can do:

  • Go back to your +2 basics, especially math and English
  • Practice logical reasoning questions regularly, even a few each day
  • Solve past entrance exam papers so you get familiar with the pattern
  • Work on your time management because these exams do not give you unlimited time
  • Keep checking for entrance notices and deadlines so you do not miss anything

The key is consistency. Even studying a little bit every day is far better than cramming everything at the last minute.

Required Documents and Details for the Entrance Application

Students enrolling for TU admission examinations should prepare their documents ahead of time to minimize delays in the application procedure. Although official notices may vary slightly each year, the typically required documents for the CMAT, IOST, and BCA admission exams are:

  • SEE marksheet and character certificate
  • For Bsc. CSIT, minimum of 2nd division or at least a ‘C’ grade in all subjects in Grade 11 and Grade 12.
  • For other faculties, minimum D+ grade in each subject of grade 11 and 12 with CGPA 1.8 or more.
  • +2 / Grade 12 marksheet or equivalent documents
  • Character certificate
  • Citizenship or proper identity documents
  • Recent passport-sized photos.
  • Entrance application form

Students should have both digital and paper copies of these documents ready during the admissions season.

Choosing the Right Program

Before you even start preparing for an entrance exam, take a moment to think about which course actually matches your interests and where you want to go in life. There is no point preparing hard for a course that you will not enjoy studying for three to four years.

Here is a simple breakdown to help you decide:

  • If you are interested in management, leadership, and building a career in business, go for BBA or BBM
  • If you want a strong theoretical business foundation and a more accessible admission process, BBS is a good option
  • If you enjoy programming and want to work in practical IT and software fields, BCA is the right fit
  • If you are interested in both IT and business management together, BITM gives you the best of both worlds
  • If you want deeper technical knowledge in computer science and have a science background, BSc. CSIT is the course for you

Entrance exams are your first real step toward getting into a TU-affiliated college. They can feel overwhelming at first, especially when you are not sure what to expect. But once you understand what each program needs and you start preparing with a clear plan, things become much more manageable.

Whether you are going into management or IT, picking the right course and putting in honest preparation will help you start your college journey on the right foot. You just need to begin early and stay consistent.
