Supriya Thapa Bhujel: My Journey Leading the Prime IT Club | BSc. CSIT 2076 Batch

Hello, everyone! I’m Supriya Thapa Bhujel, former President of the Prime IT Club for the 2023/24 tenure and a proud graduate of BSc. CSIT, Batch 2076. As I look back on my journey, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude and a sense of fulfillment. The past year was not just about leading a club; it was about transformation—both mine and that of the club. Let me share some highlights and lessons from my tenure that I hope will inspire current and future members.

1. The Importance of Purposeful Action

Serving as Vice President before becoming President taught me an invaluable lesson: it’s not enough to simply organize events; we must know why we’re doing them. This insight drove me to prioritize events that had clear objectives and meaningful outcomes. Every event began with a shared discussion: “Why are we doing this? What are we aiming to achieve?” By embedding this practice, we ensured that each event was impactful and left a lasting impression. After each event, our post-event analysis sessions evaluated whether we met our goals and identified areas for improvement.

2. Fostering Innovation and the Courage to Implement Ideas

When I took on the role of President, I had one-on-one meetings with each executive, encouraging them to dream big and share their aspirations. I learned that our team had incredible ideas, and I made it my mission to see them through. This mindset allowed us to revive the ICT Meetup with unprecedented scale, organize a first-of-its-kind Hackathon and Job Fair, and even venture into creative new territories like YouTube vlogs and podcasts. The message was simple: Great ideas only matter when we dare to implement them.

3. Measuring Success Through Impact

For me, success wasn’t about the number of events we organized or the influential speakers we brought in. It was about the impact—how many students we reached and how many challenges we addressed. Our Job Fair stood as a testament to this approach, offering tangible opportunities and placements. The Hackathon, or Hackaverse, was not just a competition; it was a platform to inspire students who were hesitant about hackathons, showing them that they could step up and succeed.

4. Leadership and Empowerment

Not everyone gets the chance to be President, but everyone should experience leadership. To make this possible, I tasked each department within our club to lead at least one event from start to finish. This practice fostered a sense of ownership and developed leaders who could confidently take the reins in the future. I saw how department heads and officers grew into capable leaders, guiding their teams and contributing to our shared vision.

Highlights of the Year: Hackaverse and Department-Led Initiatives

Hackaverse was a defining event of my tenure. It changed the mindset of students, many of whom had never considered participating in a hackathon before. Watching our members grow passionate about both organizing and competing in these events made me incredibly proud. Likewise, the departmental initiatives allowed maximum involvement and empowered our General Members to experience leadership firsthand.

Overcoming Challenges and Strengthening Bonds

One of the biggest challenges we faced was during the ICT Meetup, my first major event as the President. It was a large-scale event, and coordination among newly appointed executives was difficult at first. However, it taught us how to work together and understand one another’s strengths. Another moment that stands out was our collaboration with the Prime Esports Hub. Despite initial difficulties in securing participants for the Valorant tournament, overcoming these challenges brought us closer, culminating in a memorable ICT Musical Night.

The Role of a Leader

A significant memory that stays with me is the second day of Hackaverse. My team was exhausted, having had only a few hours of sleep. Seeing them worn out, I stepped up to boost their morale, reminding them why we were there and how far we had come. Leadership, for me, was about inspiring and collaborating while making strategic decisions. I strived to keep our decision-making process inclusive, valuing everyone’s input to create a culture where our members felt invested and proud of our initiatives.

Building a Lasting Legacy

Reflecting on my tenure, I measure success by the culture we nurtured and the foundation we laid for the future. It’s not just about the events we held; it’s about whether the values we instilled—curiosity, innovation, and bold thinking—will continue to drive the club forward. I hope that future members will remember that every event should have a mission beyond its surface and that it’s the pursuit of these missions that fuels genuine progress.

As I move forward, I do so with a heart full of gratitude for every member who shared this journey with me. Thank you for trusting me and contributing to an experience that will forever be a part of who I am. To the next generation: think big, stay curious, and never stop pushing boundaries. The best is yet to come.
