My Journey as the President of Prime EMC | Prabesh Adhikari, BSc. CSIT 2076 Batch

As I look back on my time leading Prime Entrepreneurial Management Club (EMC), it’s hard not to feel a mixture of pride, gratitude, and a little bit of nostalgia. Serving as the President was more than a title; it was a chance to leave a legacy, to guide, and to grow alongside some truly incredible people. My journey was shaped by three key goals: building a strong team, championing our theme of entrepreneurship & soft skills, and fostering collaboration and networking. Now, as I reflect on all we accomplished, I feel confident that we’ve laid a solid foundation for the future of Prime EMC.

Building a Strong Team

A club is only as strong as its team, and I wanted to create a space where every member felt valued, engaged, and supported. From the start, my focus was on creating connections between our members. This is especially evident in the bond formed among our new executives, who stepped up in ways I could only have hoped for. We recognized our members monthly with “Member of the Month” and “Executive of the Month” awards to celebrate their contributions. And it’s clear that recognition and support have made our EMC family closer and stronger.

Promoting Our Theme: Entrepreneurship & Soft Skill Development

Promoting EMC’s core theme meant offering real-world learning experiences that could empower our members. Prime BizFest was my personal favorite—an event designed around the concept of “Learn and Implement.” Gathering 16 teams from colleges across Kathmandu, we encouraged them to bring their entrepreneurial ideas to life. With the support of valued sponsors and partners, Prime BizFest ran smoothly, and for many of us, it was the first time we saw our vision come to life.

Our SheLeads event, focused on women empowerment, provided a platform for Primerians to express their personal stories and grow their confidence. Watching our members grow more comfortable with public speaking and self-expression was incredibly rewarding. And, of course, the EMC Business Hub stands as a proud milestone—an initiative to help members explore entrepreneurship within our club while generating income.

Collaboration & Networking

One of the most enriching parts of this journey was collaborating with various clubs and organizations. We kicked off the year with an Inter Club Futsal Tournament in collaboration with Prime Sports Club, bringing all clubs together in a show of unity. We worked with Prime IT Club on a Job Fair and organized Prime College Carnival 2024 alongside two exciting new teams: Prime Flair Club and Prime Esports Hub.

Beyond our own campus, we collaborated with external organizations like NYFC and Midas. Whether it was events like Graduation Ceremony, Teacher’s Day, or Deusi Bhailo, EMC members were often at the forefront, representing with pride and building a strong network along the way.

Facing Challenges

Leading Prime EMC wasn’t without its hurdles. Early on, we faced a subtle rivalry with Prime IT Club, something that had lingered from previous years. We addressed it in meetings, but while things improved, there’s still some room for collaboration to grow even stronger. Event clashes, like the one during the Job Fair, posed additional challenges, reminding us of the importance of timely communication and planning.

Our budget was another significant hurdle. Sponsorship and financial planning sometimes demanded more time than the actual event preparation, leaving less room for creative innovation. Despite this, we managed to pull off all our planned activities, thanks to the dedication of our team.

My Leadership Style

Throughout this journey, I embraced a democratic approach to leadership. While I ultimately made the final calls, decisions were always discussed openly, ensuring every member felt heard. One of my favorite practices was encouraging shy members to host our meetings. Watching them step out of their comfort zones and grow in confidence was one of the most rewarding aspects of this role. Some members who started off nervous about speaking in front of a group are now seasoned speakers, hosting meetings and representing EMC with pride.

Measuring Success

Success isn’t just about events and numbers; it’s about the growth of our members and the spirit of the club. One moment that truly defined this was when several of our general members turned down executive offers from other clubs, choosing to stay with EMC even if they didn’t get a promotion. To me, this loyalty and commitment are worth more than any accolades. It speaks to the culture we’ve created, one of mutual respect, growth, and a shared vision.

A Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, I envision a future for Prime EMC with a stronger focus on entrepreneurship. Imagine a platform where aspiring entrepreneurs could launch real businesses with sales, marketing, and all the components needed for a successful enterprise. Our events, like BizFest, could be bigger and bolder, maybe even without the traditional stage setup—just pure, hands-on business experiences.

I also want to invest in soft skill development for every Primerian, with a special focus on management students related to accounting bootcamps, financial literacy, marketing bootcamps. Fostering a strong sense of teamwork and growth among our general members remains a priority, as they are the future leaders of Prime EMC.

Wrapping Up

My presidency at Prime EMC wasn’t perfect, but it was a time of incredible growth—for both the club and myself. I’ve learned the value of resilience, the power of collaboration, and the impact of a team united by a shared purpose. EMC is now more than just a club; it’s a thriving community where everyone feels a sense of belonging. And as I prepare to hand over the reins, I’m excited to see how future leaders will build on this foundation and take Prime EMC to new heights.
